Thirteen Rides/Attractions I Love At DisneyWorld
March 5, 2008 |

So…without further ado - my Thursday Thirteen post is all about 13 Rides/Attractions I love at Disney World!A few years ago I moved to Florida and am reasonably near The Mouse. Of course I love to go there whenever I can. My grandchildren will be here in a few weeks and of course we’ll go to Disney! Here are 13 Rides Attractions I Love:
1. The Tower of Terror. This has to be my favorite ride of all! I love the theming they do with this one, the back story and just..swell…everything about this ride. This is an attraction that the ride attendants can really have fun and make your experience even better. Some of them really get into the act! I love going on with people who have never been on before as they have NO idea of when they’ll be dropped 13 stories. (and I’ve seen burly “manly men” scream like little girls!) Disney has changed it so it’s a random series of drops. When they first did this ride it only dropped once. Then they changed it to do several. Now it’s a computer-generated sequence so you don’t know how you will be dropped.
2. Pirates of the Caribbean. This ride was redone after the release of the movie with Johnny Depp. (can’t recall which one of the three it was redone after…) REALLY great animatronic Jack Sparrows were added. I will have to admit loving the one in DisneyLand a bit more, but this is a “must go on” for me. Although I wish they’d not decided to be politically correct as they now have the women chasing the men in one of the scenes!
3. Haunted Mansion. This is another recently re-done ride and kudos for Disney on this one. They did an excellent job! You get in your “doom buggy” and explore the Haunted Mansion. They’ve made the back story a bit more prominent, with the bride and her headless grooms. This is another attraction where the attendants sometimes really get into their roles. The new version of the “stretching room” has great sound effects. I do miss the old bride with the red beating heart that they used to have though…
4. Big Thunder Mountain. Also recently re-done. I don’t see many changes in the scenery although there are a few things added. The refurbishment seems mainly to the track as it’s a lot smoother. This is a mild coaster — it’s more the fun of the theming and scenery that is the fun of this ride. I just never seem to get tired of it, and I always come off smiling. Often a very long line to ride this one.
5. Soarin’. There are some people who know me who will wonder why I didn’t put this one first. I really do love this ride. It’s the ride with the longest wait times of any attraction. You sit in a carriage-like contraption that places you high up in front of an I-Max-like screen and you simulate hang gliding over California. Complete with smells of pine, ocean and orange groves. Very relaxing. Drop by and tell Patrick I said “hi”!
6. SpaceShip Earth. JUST re-done. I’ve only been able to ride it once since the refurbishment but my initial reaction is that they did a really good job. The scenes have been either completely redone, or updated with superior animatronics than they had before. The ending is now an interactive “you choose your future” via an onboard screen. I always liked this attraction, there is just something so iconic about that big, large silver golfball!
7. Universe of Energy. I don’t know why I like this one, but I do. And yes, I love Ellen in this! Now, the ending is far too long and I could do without the “radio broadcast”. On a really hot day, this is a must do ride to cool down and rest. I love the dinosaurs!
8. Carousel of Progress. I KNOW some people don’t like this attraction. I KNOW the last scene really, really, really needs to be updated. (and wow, how this could use the new animatronics that Disney now has). But I love this one and always try to go on it when I’m at Magic Kingdom. Supposdedly, Walt Disney himself proclaimed this his favorite attraction. The Carousel of Progress currently holds a record as the longest-running stage show, with the most performances, in the history of American Theater.
9. The Lion King. The reason I put “ride/attraction” on this list is that I HAD to add this show. It is amazing and I never, ever grow tired of seeing it. It is a MUST SEE for anyone who goes to Animal Kingdom. There is so much going on in the show — there is always something to look at and see. I could go on forever about how I love this show: the stiltwalkers, the Tumble Monkeys, Timon… Just a very well-done and enjoyable show!
10. Everest. I didn’t mean to put this as #10 as though it’s way down on my list. It’s not - I LOVE this coaster! It’s one of the smoothest coasters I have ever ridden. The theming is wonderful, and when the Yeti is working - GREAT effects! Sitting in the front row is worth it. I only hate this ride when I’m in the back row - something about going backwards while in the last row doesn’t sit well with my stomach. GREAT views while at the top! Well done Disney!
11. Fantasmic. I don’t get to see this show often — the lines are just too long! People start lining up two hours in advance. Hit a time when the crowds aren’t too bad and then you’ll have a chance without spending your entire life waiting to be let in the stadium. Wonderful show. Not one I want to see every time I go - but if you have never seen it - it IS a must see if you can. Great water effects.
12. Splash Mountain. I really like this ride, but hardly ever ride. Yes, I’m weird… This is a great ride, I just don’t seem to hit it right, as most times I don’t want to spend the day all wet. You can get drenched on this ride. By the end of the day it’s too cool or I’m too tired. Another example of really great little touches in the queue and in the scenes. I also LOVE standing on the bridge and watching everyone who plummets down the flume get soaked!
13. Moonlight. Oh, darn - there IS NO Moonlight ride at Disney World! There should be! Oh come on, for those who do know me and regularly read my TT-13’s - I always, always mention Moonlight (the CBS vampire drama show on Friday nights). Gotta have that gratuitous mention of Mick St. John, Alex O’Loughlin and Moonlight. Not quite Disney fare…well maybe - look at Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion. They could do a wonderful job on this. Wow… an animatronic of Mick St. John?

We had a BLAST at Disney. The haunted mansion was so fun… I wish they would have had some kind of roller coaster at the end… you know, go to the top of the house, and roll all the way out!! And the Pirates was Great too. It was so fun with the kids…
I’d love to visit Disneyworld. Disneyland Paris is closest, but I’ve never been there yet either.
Thanks for visiting my inspiring people TT!
First, I’m glad you are feeling better. I used to love all kinds of rides, but when you get older some of us just can’t handle it anymore. Drat. It’s a shame too. Have a great TT.
We went to Disney World in 1973 shortly after it opened and have not been back. My son and his family are talking about going down as a family for Christmas vacation this year. It should be interesting.
How fun I think I am going in May I went to DISNEYLAND 30 years ago and loved Big Thunder Mountain.I think it was new then
I haven’t been to Disney World, even though I live in Florida, but I have been to Disneyland in LA and i went on some of these rides there. Splash Mountain was my favourite out of this lot. I went on something very similar to the Tower of Terror at Universal in Orlando. I didn’t scream but many people did.
I love the Haunted Mansion and am pleased to hear the renovation was a success. I can get pretty sentimental about cherished childhood memories and would hate it if they’re messed with it too much. (Thanks for visiting my TT)
Never been myself, but I’ve heard it’s great fun.
Maybe one day.
oh what fun! i haven’t been in so long, i felt like i was right back in the park.
happy TT
We’re taking the four grand kids to Disney World this summer. I can’t wait to see the looks on their faces. We’re not telling them until the morning we leave.
I’ve only been to Disney World / EPCOT once and that was more than 20 years ago so I don’t recognize many of things on your list. As a southern California I am way more familiar with Disneyland but even there it’s been more than a decade since my last visit. Happy TT.
You know, I practically grew up at Disneyland but I’ve never been to Disney world. I’m amazed at how different it is from Disneyland… amazing!
What a fun place to be and a great reason for TT.
Hope you can stop by and see Thirteen Reasons It’s Great To Be A Woman.
That makes me excited to go there in a couple years when my daughters are older.
We have a few of the same favorites! Oh, and I LOVE Fantasmic! So awesome!
I’ve still never been to Disney World, but if they had a Moonlight ride with Alex standing by I’d definitely make it a priority.
Happy TT

Never been to any Disney. But now I have a list of attractions to visit if I ever go. Unless a vampire bites me from that Moonlight show. Then I’d have to go at night. That might suck. Pun intended.
My 70th Thursday 13 is up. 13 Childrens Books That Were Never Written Stop by if you get a chance.
My favorites are Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean (and I haven’t seen any of the Pirate movies), and the People Mover. I used to like Carousel of Progress but the one here in California has been gone for many, years.
We are going this fall. Thanks for the information and reviews!
Never been to Disney World either… wish I could go there one day
Wheee!!! I am riding them in my mind right now!
This is a wonderful post! I was wondering how the new PotC ride looked. I love several of those rides, and I hope to go get to ride them again. (The last time I was 13…good Lord, about 20 years ago, then.)
And I would adore a Moonlight ride.
I haven’t done the amusement park thing in years. I was curious as to how you would work in a Moonlight/Alex/Mick reference. This has become quite the trademark for you.
I love this list, never been there but have always wanted to. I do love Splash Mountain though, my daughters would love the carosel. My son of course would be all about the rollercoasters. Happy TTing!
I LOVE Disney World and now I need to start planning my next vacation there. Great ride choices (except the last one ;))
I have never been there, but it sure sounds like fun! I hope to make it there someday, with or without the kids.
Happy TT! Stop by Sassyfrazz if you get a chance!
We’ll be taking our two youngest for the first time to Florida and the theme park this May :knock wood: (Money is always an issue; but not that I’ve stopped here, that should change, right? lol)
It’s so many attractions is hard to choose.
We haven’t been to Disneyland since the opening in Paris, April 1992;D.
I do remember 2,3, 4 and 6.
Great TT
I need to go to Disney World again - I’ve not been since I was a little kid.
Happy TT!
I’m a first timer. This is an awesome list! We love, love, love Disney World, and we love all of the same rides as you…Carousel of Progress included!
