13 Reasons Why My Life Is Crazy
February 6, 2008 |

Edition #10
I’ve missed several Thursday Thirteen posts because…well…my life has been crazy lately! I’m thrilled to be back for my TT-13 post, and what better subject than 13 Reasons Why My Life Is Crazy?!
1. My blogging platform was having issues for quite some time. I’d post something and then it would disappear. Posts that disappeared would suddenly show back up. I kind of lost my stride posting. I had been posting stuff every day but if you think it’s not going to STAY there - why bother? They SAY it is now fixed. (if this disappears I guess you won’t know it was here, huh?)
2. My cable service, who I won’t name, kept going down - so no Internet service even IF my blog was working.
3. The dog had the flu. (did you know dogs can get the flu?) Poor little baby. (and he for sure ate up all the attention!) Bear is all better now, but he’ll take any get-well cards you wish to send, especially if you include goodies.
4. My Dad really, really, really (really) kept after my mom and I to get him either Dish or Direct TV so he could have the sports package he wanted as our cable provider had lousy sport packages.
5. Because of the way we were set up (Vonage, [meaning no land line], Tivo and that nameless cable tv service) it would be a BIG deal.
6. I spent countless hours researching. I called everyone at least three times. Would it be even possible to change over? Did we have to go back to a land line? Could I keep my Tivos?
7. Now, I love my Tivo. I cannot live without my Tivos. (yes, we have three). Any other DVR is NOT Tivo! My mom loves Tivo too. One you go Tivo - you’ll never go back!
8. Finally came to the conclusion that we could get Dish, and I could keep my Tivos - or two of them anyway, and we could switch to DSL if we got a land line.
9. The telephone company (who shall remain nameless) has packages where they sell phones, DSL internet, AND Dish.
10. Called said company and they said they had all of them, and in fact could get it installed before Super Bowl Sunday.
11. Had a very happy Dad. We ran out and bought him a big screen, flat panel LCD TV.
12. Dish shows up. Nameless telephone company didn’t get the order right. Can’t get HD that day, can’t install as he didn’t have the correct equipment as the order was written wrong. (very, very nice local Dish installer saves the day and will come back on Saturday so Dad can have Superbowl). Oh…then nameless telephone company calls and says, “oh, so sorry - can’t do DSL right now - maybe in a month or two…we aren’t sure”. We now have no internet service. After a very, very long time and countless telephone calls we maybe get it straightened out. We are stuck with cable internet (for $60 a month now with that nameless cable company) until DSL is no longer “exhausted”. (get that DSL some rest!) Oh, and our free HBO order is messed up too!
13. Finally get representative who straightens everything out after maybe a couple of hours of being on hold. Still no DSL though until someone moves out and poor DSL isn’t exhausted any longer. Dish guy found a long-dead squirrel in attic. Found at least 6 or 7 splitters that the cable company had put on the line up there. (no WONDER we had really lousy reception) Dish guy gets the dishes up. (yep, have to have TWO dishes) But we now have TV, HBO AND Cinemax, HD, and a telephone. Within FIVE minutes of having new telephone number we get a bill collector calling for some guy who must have had the number before. Oh, and then minutes after THAT telemarketers are calling already. (I ran really fast to put us on the National Do Not Call List) Mom and I want a drink…. And to make things even worse - there is NO new episode of Moonlight this week! Darn, seeing Moonlight in HD is what HD is for!!!
(did you think I’d forget my gratuitous mention of Moonlight, Alex O’Loughlin or Mick St. John? I’m not THAT crazy…)
It WILL get better. I know it will….
